APNA Member-At-Large Position Description
TERM
Board members-at-large serve one three-year term.
DUTIES
The duties of Board members-at-large are to:
- Lead the profession and specialty practice of psychiatric-mental health nursing
- Ensure effective and accountable governance
- Serve as financial stewards
- Provide responsible oversight of the association
- Demonstrate personal leadership
- Maintain a current knowledge of global trends and developments influencing APNA and all APNA programs, products and services
- Represent the association as required
- Model the partnership philosophy between board and staff
- Exercise sound business judgment.
- Demonstrate competent and accountable leadership and ensuring leadership continuity
- Mentor and prepare prospective leaders
- Avoid conflicts of interest and promptly notify the executive director if a potential conflict arises
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be a voting member in good standing for at least one year immediately prior to assuming office
- Demonstrated leadership skills and previous APNA volunteer leadership service are preferred
- Willingness to commit the time and skills necessary to fulfill the expectations of the role
- Ability to set and maintain high standards for personal performance
- Availability to travel to APNA board meetings, annual conference and other meetings as may be required.
- Knowledge about global trends and issues influencing the association and the association’s programs, projects and services
- Experience with strategic planning and budgeting
- Excellent written, oral communication and presentation skills
- Participative leadership style
- Demonstrated problem solving and ethical decision-making experience
- Excellent time management and organization skills
- Ability to work with diverse styles and personalities and facilitate teamwork and consensus
- Works well under pressure and is good on his/her feet
- Experience mentoring future leaders
