Announcing the new JAPNA Associate Editor
Angel Johann Solorzano Martinez, PhD, DNP, MSN, MBA, RN, CNS, PMHNP-BC

Following a search and interview process administered by the JAPNA Associate Editor Search Committee, the APNA Board of Directors has named Angel Johann Solorzano Martinez, PhD, DNP, MSN, MBA, RN, CNS, PMHNP-BC as the incoming Associate Editor for the Journal of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (JAPNA).

Solorzano Martinez, who starts the role January 2025, is a 2023 recipient of an APNA Research Grant, a JAPNA peer reviewer, and more recently, a JAPNA Editorial Board member. He is an adjunct assistant professor at Samuel Merritt University School of Nursing.

“I am honored to serve as the next Associate Editor for the Journal of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association, and I look forward to working with JAPNA’s editorial team,” Solorzano Martinez said. “In my nursing career, I’ve had a passion for psychiatric-mental health nursing, nursing research, and nursing education. I would like to extend my support to nurse researchers, nurse educators, and nursing professionals to assist them in disseminating their research in this journal. Their contributions are critical to the advancement of the field of psychiatric-mental health nursing.”

“Dr. Solorzano Martinez brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Associate Editor role,” Michelle DeCoux Hampton, RN, PhD, MS current JAPNA Associate Editor and incoming JAPNA Editor-in-Chief, said. “With both practice and research degrees, as well as a current clinical practice and academic appointment, he has a unique perspective on the interrelationship of the various sources of knowledge that inform our work as psychiatric-mental health nurses in clinical practice, academia, and research arenas. I’m thrilled that he will join the team and look forward to our collaboration in the future.”
