Updated Position: Psychotherapy and the Scope of the PMH-APRN Role

Psychotherapy is essential for providing comprehensive, patient-centered, evidence-based care – and is therefore integral to PMH-APRN practice. In order to ensure that PMH-APRNs are equipped to provide this care for mental health conditions across the lifespan, APNA’s updated position, Psychotherapy and the Scope of the Psychiatric-Mental Health Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Role, discusses the importance of didactic content and supervised clinical training in psychotherapy for PMHNP programs as well as psychotherapy continuing education for practicing PMH-APRNs.
